Happy Birthday to me! :-D

It's been a fun day. I've got to spend most of the day playing computer games. Always fun. :) Nice presents and good food.

Gamespy.com has a feature up about the The Top Ten Handhelds that Never Made It. The number 1 was none other than the Neo Geo Pocket Color. Go ahead and read what they had to say about it. But in response I posted the following on the gamespy forums...

As I read the article I noticed my beloved had not yet appeared. Then as I got into the top three I knew there was some who shared my sorrow. It almost brought a tear in my eye the day I read the press release that SNK USA was shutting down and ordering a recall on all merchandise. I think that was the dagger. I mean why couldn't they at least let me find a dusty copy of Evolution in some store somewhere 3 months down the line? Why? So that day I ran out and bought what I could. But still I mean why? Why couldn't they of at least sold off their NeoGeo business and made a profit off of it no doubt. Why could they not say hey SNK USA try to run yourself, I don't know. But it was just brought back sad memories reading gamespy's views on my beloved system. Thank you though, because now I know somewhere it's getting the respect it deserves. Despite all the looks I would get from people wondering why I wasn't playing a gameboy instead.

"So are they selling well?", I said to the clerk.
"Yeah they are. We're all playing it now more than gameboys." the clerk replied.
"They're going to stick around for a while right?" I asked.
He nodded yes saying "Yes they have a long list of games coming out for it."
"Good, because the last thing I want is to buy the system and the company stop selling it or something." I said as I paid for the Sonic bundle with the platinum case. Because if I'm not mistaken this was soon after I had been disappointed by the news that Sega was stopping support for my other console, the Dreamcast.
True story.

Doh!

First I've got a correction. Lineage II : The Chaotic Chronicle has little to do with Lord British. From what I was told it's actually only his company that is serving as the US publisher for it. My apologies to Raoul Kim, the Lead Game Designer. Be sure to go over to that website and check out all the movies and info, it looks cool.

On game I haven't really checked out is Final Fantasy XI. If anyone has any comments on it head over to the forum and share.

The Orlando Magic are on tonight playing the New Jersey Nets at home. They've won the last 6 out of 10 at home which is pretty good. I still think if they get a few winning runs going they can still make the playoffs. Tracy McGrady was also named a started for the all-star game tonight. A lot of people are saying he probably doesn't deserve it since the team is playing so badly. Especially since Byron Davis didn't get a starting spot and he's just having a really great year. Eh, what are you going to do. I voted for Tmac, but I don't think I could of voted any other way being the fan I am. The biggest news is Yao got the starting center spot in the west from Shaq by 35,000 votes. Maybe Shaq will have something to prove. I voted for Yao because he really has had a great year and I think he'd be more fun to watch.

Still over there are the Yahoo group and the message board. I encourage everyone to try them out.

World of Warcraft beta signups today!

What a treat! Two cool MMORPG beta signups in one week. Sweetness. Now kids be sure to note that you can't signup until 6pm PST. In the mean time you can go over to the site and check out their new screenshots. I imagine with Blizzard's track record World of Warcraft is going to have a lot of nice polish on it. So hopefully all the little parts are going to work just as well as the whole. By the time of release that is. Certainly not in beta. But I do think they've been at various stages of beta for a while now so who knows? Certainly not I. Yet anyway. ;-)

Now that Jim O'Brien has stepped down as the coach of the Boston Celtics, only one coach in the eastern conference coached his respective team at the end of last year. It's pretty nuts if you ask me. Outside the Lines even did a little piece on it last night. They had a quote from Pat Riley saying, (paraphrasing) 'The league is going through menopause. It's very emotional and it doesn't make any sense in it's decisions.' Crazy.

Oh how do you like the new website design? I even through in a little php too. This is the first time I've used php so there might be some little add-ons to the site that might be cool with a few php tricks. And as always drop by the forum or join the Yahoo group and say hi.

Lineage II : The Chaotic Chronicle Beta sign-ups

Yep, Lord British's newest marvel is starting their beta sign-ups for their North American release. And if don't sign-up, at least take a look at this. That has got to be the coolest preview video for a MMO ever. Well at least the coolest I've ever seen. Granted you'd probably have to work pretty hard to make a scenario like that in the game, but it's just cool to see what MMO's could/should be.

I'm willing to bet Matt "The Captain" Mackowski knows some more goody goodness about this game so maybe he'll pop in with some other news later.

Lakers lose 9th straight on the road to the Mavericks. 106-87

You can only imagine what Gary Payton is thinking right now. He signed up to be on the one team. The one team that would rule them all! Gary, Kobe, Karl and Shaq. It was thought you could throw your grandmother in at the 3 spot and the Lakers would still win 70 games. But it seemed doomed from the start. Right after the Payton-Malone signing Kobe found his new reasons to lose endorsements. Then with all the injuries this year it's been a mad mad mad mad world in the Staples Center.
Well if Shaq has TWISM(The World Is Mine) as his slogan, he should hold part of the blame right? Granted he's been injured, but somehow I feel if had some sort of leadership of the team in place they might of been able to weather this a little better. You would think he would be the defacto leader of the team since he lead the team to a 3-peat. But somehow his cavalier attitude has let Gary Payton come in and have to take the reigns of this team. Analysts have been saying the Lakers aren't even running the trademark triangle offense half the time anymore. They say it's Gary Payton running his running offense he had in Seattle for all those years. But if you were Gary wouldn't you do something, anything to try to get the wins. This was the starting 5 last night vs. Dallas on the road. Gary Payton, Kareem Rush, Devean George, Luke Walton, Stanislav Medvedenko. Not quite the one team to rule them all. More like what you expect to see in the last 2 minutes of the half.
I don't have their answers either. If I did have any answers I'd sure give them to Orlando. But it's still amazing to see none the less. We'll wait to see if the one team can make it to play for the one ring. Can Garnett lead his new superteam? Can Duncan keep his team together long enough? And just will we see The return of the King?

Nintendo DS anyone?

It's interesting. 2 screens? The example they give is saying that you can see the whole soccer game in one screen and a close-up of one player in the other. Well that just seems like a distraction to me. But I guess I'd have to see it first hand before making any real judgements. The multiple processors idea sounds interesting. I guess we'll just have to wait till E3 for the full scoop though. Hopefully we'll see more of Sony's PSP between now and then too.

Me and Skillz

Yeah Matt's going to be a regular 'round here. So the site might change a little bit. Fasten your seatbelts and you can actually leave your tray tables down if you like. We don't care.

Ha ha!

That's all I have to say about not updating, not posting and blah blah blah. But now I am!

Okay so I'm in St. Louis now and I'm trying to get the whole video chat thing to work with my parents. I've used MSN Messenger in the past and NetMeeting. Well you need XP for the video chat to work in MSNMessenger and I found NetMeeting to be a lot more hastle(needing to get ip addresses and all). So I was at the gym a couple days ago and was reading a PC magazine while on the bike. They had a cool article reviewing all different kinds of video chat programs. Well for some reason the names of the two they really liked escaped me but I did remember Yahoo Messenger had a video function and it seemed to work pretty well. So we downloaded that and whalla! It worked on my end anyway. Now Pops just needs to get his camera installed again and get a mic. So fyi my Yahoo Messenger name is DataRez if anyone would like drop me a line. ;-) Now I just need the rest of my friends to get it so I can really put it though it's paces.

On other computer related news, my wireless router went out on me! Well it's been really spotty for a while. I just wasn't getting much distance out of it at all. I'm talking about 10 feet though only 1 regular house wall. So I decided to see if there were any firmware upgrades for it. It being a Linksys Wireless Router 802.11B BEFW11S4 v.2 There was indeed an update for it. So I installed it. Then it wouldn't work at all! So after about a hour of messing with it, I thought I'd just flash the firmware down to an older version that I had in it before that way it'd work at least a little bit. But then it died. :-( Now all I get is the dreaded red light on the front saying "throw it away" (Not really but since the warranty is long expired...) So now I'm down to one PC online for a bit. I'm thinking the switch is still good in it so if I can get another network card I can try to just use Internet Sharing and get the other computers online with a wired network.

Oh the basketball front the Magic are having, shall we say, a bad year. At the begining of the season I was going to post with all my predictions and such. But that'd almost be silly now. I really thought the Magic were going to have a good year. But alas it was not to be. Maybe I'll find those predictions on here somewhere and post them later.

Alright that should be enough for your new '04 fix. There you go, enjoy.
