I'd just like to point out how much my bracket kicks ass this year!!

Click it see a large view!
Yeah I know I had Stanford to go all the way. I actually had them picked to go all the way in all 3 of my brackets. Now that they're out I'm thinking Duke. But hey I got 3 of final four How cool is that?
I don't want to spoil the splender of my picks by muddying your mind with other nonsense. Just admire the amazing brillance of my Tourney Picks. Clicky, clicky already!
Just 3 servers? Come on!
Now I don't really like to complain about betas very often because they're free and all. But NCSoft America only put up 3 servers to start off the Open Beta. It has been so over populated it's unbelievable. It's not really indicative of the experience you're supposed to have. At least it hasn't been the same as in closed beta. It feels like you're constantly competing for kills. I wish we could see some data on how populated the servers are, especially the population of Talking Island on Bartz.
So as I said I tried to start playing again yesterday at 5pm, but I didn't get in the server until 6:40pm and that was constant trying too. The delay wasn't so bad though because I was able to watch the Duke game. Whohoo I've got another one of my final four picks right. But I digress. Most of the time once you get past the login, then the daily message I get stuck at the server selection. Now in the discription it does say Net Congestion, but that's not helping me get in. Now I guess i could pick another server but they don't look anymore stable right now.
I started hunting werewolves and orcs. I gained another level in there somewhere soon after I logged on which was cool. But i then proceeded to die twice about a half hour from each other which stunk. Normally I don't mind dieing at all because you lose experience points but not skill points. So dieing enables me to get more skills quickly. I found that if you just level straight through you won't quite be able to get all the skills when you want to. But since I was trying to level to get off of Talking Island I wasn't all that happy about dieing. But it wasn't too long after that I got another level. Then it was really turning around and I got the Wood set. That's a Wooden Helmet, Wooden Breastplate and Wooden Gaitors(pants). Wearing all 3 of those gives a +2 to defense and a +41 in Hit Points. I could always use the HP. Then still slowly hunting Werewolves, Orcs and goblins till midnight when I decided to call it a night.
So as you can see that first prize is out of my sight. There's no way I can be the first to 40 now, but I'll still try to get it done before open beta ends. I'll still be telling you all how my Lineage 2 experience is going too. So now that I'm not trying anything crazy like the first to 40 where I thought I might get hunted and killed I'll tell everyone my name in the game. I play as Barrs on Bartz server. I won't be telling you my level anymore though. But I will tell you I'm over level 10 and it took 9 hours and 32 minutes to get to level 10.
Till next time.
I had to take a break.
I was able to log in right after my last post and then another hour of killing I was up to level 7. I was doing the admantite giant toad quest on Talking Island. I've done this quest in closed beta quite a few times before. Well I wasn't prepared at trying to do this with a few hundred other people trying the same quest. The worst part is to collect the 20 quest items that you get when you kill a toad you have to be the only person that attacks it. That was a rare thing. There were so many people around they would attack anything as soon as they see it. Where normally I could do this quest in less that 30 minutes it took a hour and a half this morning. I've never wanted to just start attacking kill stealers so bad then early this morning around 6am. So around 6:30am I made it to level 8 and started hunting orcs. I was getting pretty tired at this point and accidently died at the hands of a orc archer at 7am. I took that as a sign to get some sleep. I ended up sleeping in around noon and then had some family stuff to do this afternoon. Getting a break into the real world and meeting and talking to real people is always good.
So now it's 5pm and I'm about to start up again, but the servers are down. I know because of not playing today I'm probably way behind the curve, but I've got time to spare. I can play at night and during the day on weekdays when most people won't be on. Right now with so many people playing it's hard just to get anything done. So I might be out of it for the first to 40 contest but I'll keep at it and see how it goes. I'll keep you updated.
Well the server has been down for about 10 minutes now so it's a good time to update...
I was able to log in at 2:10am CST and wow it was crowded. There were several hundred people all running around in an area you would usually see a couple dozen at the most. This was the human fighter starting area on the Bartz server. It was like attack of the clones. Hundreds of fighters attacking little keltirs(wild dog creatures). The bad part was there wasn't enough keltirs to go around. I ended up running over to the human mage starting area and that was only slightly less crowded. I ended up hunting the keltirs till level 4. Then the server crashed for the first time at 4:15am. I was level 5 by this time and hunting wolves. It was only down for about 2 minutes and it was great when I got back in. There was hardly anyone there compared to before. Granted it was still crowded, just a lot less crowded. Then I managed to get to level 6 at 4:22 but then the server crashed again at 4:33. I'm still waiting to get back in...
Well it's time. Good bye nice wonderful world, hello Aden.
Lineage 2 should be launching Open Beta as I write this. Just so you can keep up here's a few links to check out.
Lineage Center They've got good news from Korea and the US. Plus they have L2Resource with info that they're working on putting together.
irc.sorcery.net #lineage2 That's were you should go to chat to people who aren't playing lineage 2 but wish they were. They're all nice.
Okay time to go hit connect a few million times till I get in. :)
Lineage II : Beta Challenge
The Lineage 2 site got a whole site update, redesign, evolution with the release of Open Beta. It's very cool. A lot of new content all about Prelude. Also they announced new contests to go along with open beta.
Worlds Strongest Man Competition! The first person to reach level 40 on any server wins a new Alienware computer.
Top Clans of the Land! Three of the top 10 highest rated clans in the first three weeks of Open Beta will be picked to win gift certificates. $200 for each member of the first clan picked, then $100 and $50 respectively.
Moving on Up! Any player who within the first 3 weeks to complete their level 20 career transfer is eligible to win prizes in a drawing. Prizes include LCD Monitor, video card and other prizes.
Are you a Virtual Photographer? Each week there is a theme selected and players submit screenshots to win a digital camera. One given away each of the four weeks.
Lineage II Directors! Once every took weeks they are going to select the best 30 second 10 megabyte in game movie to win a Cannon camcorder.
Those look very fun and cool for the publisher to offer. I'm actually looking at doing the Worlds Strongest Man competition. I don't have any other obligations right now so why not? Granted I'll have to play almost 24 hours a day, but I think I'm up for it. At the very least I would be entered into the Moving on Up! contest in just attempting the first to 40 contest. The fact that I can carry that character over to release means it wouldn't be time wasted because I would have a pretty high level character.
So what I'll do is chronicle my adventures to get to level 40 here. We'll see how I do in the game and how long I can hold out without sleep. The Open Beta starts tonight(Sunday Morning) at 3am EST. That's 2am here. So I've been trying to plan a few things out. Get the info on quests, monsters, where to hunt. etc. I've been puting some things together to print out so I won't have very much down time going on the websites to figure out the best places to go. I'm also going to have to watch out for the other players too. Since it's all pvp there might be a bit of player killing going on to try to help another person get to 40 faster. Another problem I'm having is which server to play. There are going to be 4 servers to start with. Some might be technically a little easier to do this on because of the number of hardcore clans on certain servers. But we'll see how it goes. I'll report back soon.
The Tourney returns. :)
After a few days off from March Madness, this weekend we'll be getting some more last second 3's from half court. Well at least I hope they're are. So far in my group at ESPN.com I'm winning. It's just a few friends and I did 3 brackets while they only did one each. So I've got the odds in my favor. But actually I think all 3 of mine are above all of theirs :)
I've been playing
Lineage 2 closed beta lately. In english this time even. A few months ago I was playing it on the Taiwanese Open Beta. While the game is still a lot of fun it's pretty hard to interact with people when most of them are speaking Chinese. That just made it that much cooler really because any english speaking player would almost automatically be nice to another english speaking player. Now in the US beta the niceness isn't all there. See Lineage 2 is what they call a pvp game. Player vs Player. That means you can attack any player at any time. So if you don't like the way another player is talking to you, try to kill him. That'll shut him up. But watch out because he may come back and stalk you down and kill you when you least expect it. There are monsters in the game that aren't controled by people so there's more to do than just kill your friends and neighbors but the added chance to do that is very cool. It also puts added danger in the game because at any time you could be struck down.
For instance the other night while playing there's a dungeon on the human starting island the ruins. Well normally there's no one on the island over level 20. Because the island is so small compared to the mainland there's not much to see or kill that's difficult to kill for someone over level 20. But the other night two players that most guessed were around level 35 decided not to let anyone in or out of the ruins. To get in the ruins you talk to a npc woman and you teleport into the ruins. Everyone teleports in at the same exact spot. Standing right there were you come in there are these 2 high level players killing everyone in sight that comes in or tries to go out within 3 seconds. They were just causing mayhem for about 2 hours. It was really neat to see. How 2 players can create such impact in the game and gameplay. Because no one on the island could use the ruins if they didn't want them too. Sure a lot of people tried to gang up on them and kill them but I heard stories of a group of 10 players all in their low teens getting mopped up by them. It was an impressive sight.
The good news is everyone can join in the fun in Lineage 2 soon. On the 28th the game is going into Open Beta. That means you don't have to pay for it yet but you get to play it as if you were. Sure they may take the servers down a little more often than if you were paying but hey it's free and it's pretty close to what the game is going to be. It's doubly cool with Lineage 2 for two reasons. One unlike other MMO games that go through the whole closed, open beta, release cycle, Lineage 2 won't be deleting all the characters between open beta and release. They normally call that a player wipe. So all the hard work you put into your character in the free open beta will stay with you if you buy the game upon release on April 28th. The second nice thing about this open beta is that Lineage 2 is a story line MMORPG with chapters. Open beta will be playing in the Prelude chapter. Closed beta was playing in pre-prelude(wonderful name eh?). Prelude added a lot of equipment, new land to explore and new monsters to kill. Upon release the game will be in Chronicle 1, adding more land, monsters, skills, weapons and enable your character to reach a higher level. The world Lineage 2 is played in, Aden, will eventually be the size Korea. So if this sounds as cool to you as it does to me you should try it out while it's free. The open beta starts on March 28th.
[MiND] Lives? Maybe?
I ended up getting Battlefield: Vietnam yesterday. It's awesome!! I'm having a blast playing it. I've mentioned a few things I like about it over at the Mindgrinders Website(
www.grindyourmind.com). That's the website for the gaming clan that Ryan Hill(Fragger), Matt(Hellfire) and I(Flash switched to DataRez) started. This game is so fun I'd like to play with some of the guys if they have it. But I don't know how much traffic the site gets from any of the old guys anymore.
But what I didn't mention over at the MiND website about the game... The soundtrack! EA has really been working at getting game soundtracks on par with movie soundtracks by licensing popular music. Well it worked perfectly win BF:V. Nothing beats cruising in a jeep listening to a little CCR. Or flying a huey in nice and low around some palm trees while blasting "War! What is it good for?" The one down side is everyone around you can hear the music too. So it gives away your position pretty quick. But not a big deal sometimes because the motor noise would give you away anyway.
Right now I have the game graphics turned all the way down and the sound quality on medium. I need to spend more time investigating but I think a bad sound setting was causing bad framerate issues for me. But I went ahead and turned down the graphics at the same time because nothing stinks more than getting killed because of bad framerate.
"Absoulting Noth'in!"
UT2004 can make you just feel
embarrassed sometimes.
It's cool. I'm finally getting the hang of onslaught. Although I bet the full game has better maps though. I hope so at least. It seems everyone else really gets a kick out of onslaught too that's about the only game mode you can find people out there playing. But for the love of god don't list a server as near full when it's all bots. That's just lame. I thought my 40 point score was really something till I saw their pings!
But I think this might tear a rift in the First Person Shooter community. UT2004 and Battlefield: Vietnam out at the same time. What to do. On one hand you've got a super-sweet-totally-modable-futuristic game-mode-a-plenty Unreal Tournament 2004. Then you've got the oh-my-god-can-it-be-this-fun-classtastic-I-had-vehicles-first Battlefield:Vietnam. What is a person to do with their little bit of dough? I don't know folks. Probably since I already have BF1942 I'm leaning to get UT2004 maybe even the DVD special mod edition.
Granted everyone's got an idea. But I've got this super sweet idea for a whole game world and it's got a sweet ass FPS gameplay item too it. I've even started on movie script ideas for this world. It's in the sorta near future where humans are just starting to colonize the moon. Well different governments are having a land claim battle over parts of the Moon because of a mineral that can be used as a fuel source inside the moon. Then all kinds of kick ass action ensues. I don't want to give too much away but I've even got sequels lined up. The sequel has the battle going to Mars. Then to complete the trilogy humans have colonized the moons around Jupiter, but that turns into a MMOFPS/RPG game idea. And that's way down the pipe. But really the Jupiter idea came first and I wrote the history backwards to get to the moon idea. Maybe I should get started on that again. Now where were my old notes...
It's March Madness time! I've set up a group called
Mindgrinders over at ESPN.com for everyone to see how they can do at picking who's going to win the NCAA Basketball Championship. You can also set-up more than one team. Just be sure to have all your teams in the group before game 1 starts on March 18th.
Okay my hosting changed one of the php settings. But I switched it back so the site should be working again.
Oh and by the way my body is working again. My shoulder is feeling better and better. Last Wednesday I went to go see the Orthopedic Surgeon and he said another 6 weeks till it's healed and a year till it's fully healed like it didn't happen. But I will have a bump there on my collar bone for the rest of my days. He said I had a pretty severe break. If it had been a little worse I would of probably had the bone sticking out through the skin. That would of been unpleasant.
I went to the
ICCC Criterium Race here in town yesterday. I stayed the whole day 9:30am till 4pm. I had never been to a race in person so I wanted to see it all I guess. Hopefully I can participate in a race myself soon. I just started riding
my bike on the indoor trainer again this week. So I've got a ways to go fitness wise because I wasn't doing much while recouperating. But since I'll be Cat 5. Just competing is experience enough just for now. I just want to wait a little bit longer to get my shoulder nice and strong.
Alright, my pizza should be getting here soon...
